Atari 1200XL Extender, Cartridge Adapter

A simple adapter that extends the cartridge slot of the Atari 1200XL enough to accommodate cartridges that normally wouldn't fit in this model. Completely passive—no electronics, no configuration required: just insert the adapter into the computer and the cartridge into the adapter.

The problem it solves

The Atari 1200XL has a cartridge slot positioned deeper inside the case compared to other models in the family. The result is simple but very frustrating: some cartridges—especially those with thicker third-party cases, custom 3D-printed cases, or modern devices like multicarts—simply can't reach the connectors. They physically enter the slot, but stop a few millimeters short of the connector, blocked by the case. The computer doesn't recognize them.

This board shifts the connector upward by those missing few millimeters. A cartridge that previously wouldn't work simply starts working.
