Product Details

Project Description:

  • Purpose: The adapter allows connecting devices designed for the PBI (Parallel Bus Interface) port of Atari XL computers (e.g., 800XL) to Atari XE computers with the ECI + cartridge port (e.g., 130XE, later 65XE, or 800XE). It recreates the full PBI interface by connecting the cartridge slot with ECI in a right-angle (RA) orientation.
  • Functionality: Enables the use of older PBI expansions (e.g., MIO, Black Box, 1090XL expansion) on XE machines. Not all PBI devices will work perfectly (depending on signals), but most should.
  • Assembly Notes: Requires several hardwires (wire connections):
    • CASinh signal from pin 4 of Freddie (in 130XE) to pin A of ECI (reserved).
    • Other signals such as HALT, $D1xx, RD5, CASinh to the appropriate PBI pins.
    • RDY from pin 15 of ANTIC to the RDY pin on the adapter.
